Liquid–liquid phase separation in aqueous solutions of poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate homopolymers

چکیده
Here, the liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) in aqueous solutions containing poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) methacrylate homopolymers is reported for first time. In this study, thermoresponse of concentrated DEGMA60 (two ethylene glycol, EG, groups) TEGMA71 (three EG groups), OEGMA300x (4.5 average varying molar masses (MM), and OEGMA50028 (nine discussed. Interestingly, temperature LLPS (TLLPS) controlled by length PEG side chain, MM polymer concentration. More specifically, transition decreases with: (i) Decrease (ii) increase OEGMA300x, addition, also observed mixtures with Pluronic® F127. conclusion, these systems present a thermally induced LLPS, being finely tuned to room when DEGMA used. These find potential use numerous applications, from purification “water-in-water” emulsions.

Discrimination of two fusogenic properties of aqueous polyethylene glycol solutions.
Investigations on the dose response of cell fusion, induced by ionfree aqueous polyethylene glycol (PEG) solutions, reveal distinct lowest fusogenic PEG concentrations for different permanently growing mammalian cell lines. Part of the requisite PEG can be replaced by carbohydrates, preserving the fusogenity of the solutions. This discriminates two effects of PEG solutions causing cell fusion: ...
متن کاملEffect of polyethylene glycol on the liquid-liquid phase transition in aqueous protein solutions.
We have studied the effect of polyethylene glycol (PEG) on the liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) of aqueous solutions of bovine gammaD-crystallin (gammaD), a protein in the eye lens. We observe that the phase separation temperature increases with both PEG concentration and PEG molecular weight. PEG partitioning, which is the difference between the PEG concentration in the two coexisting pha...

published in Advance ACS Abstracts, December 1, 1994. 0022-3654/95/2099-0454$09.00/0 we present here the results of experimental and theoretical studies of a ternary solution constituted of the proteins yma (designated as protein A), a “high-Tc” protein, and yw (designated as protein B), a “low-Tc” protein, in aqueous solution. The solution pH was kept constant at 7.1 by a 100 mM phosphate buff...
متن کاملWater potential of aqueous polyethylene glycol.
Water potential (Psiomega) values were determined for aqueous colloids of four molecular sizes of polyethylene glycol (PEG) using freezing-point depression and vapor-pressure deficit methods. A significant third-order interaction exists between the method used to determine Psiomega, PEG molecular size, and concentration. At low PEG concentrations, freezing-point depression measurements result i...
متن کاملFormation of globules and aggregates of DNA chains in DNA/polyethylene glycol/monovalent salt aqueous solutions.
It has been known that giant DNA shows structural transitions in aqueous solutions under the existence of counterions and other polymers. However, the mechanism of these transitions has not been fully understood. In this study, we directly observed structures of probed (dye-labeled), dilute DNA chains in unprobed DNA/polyethylene glycol (PEG)/monovalent salt (NaCl) aqueous solutions with fluore...
